At Underprotection we only use materials that are classified or certified sustainable. The majority of the natural materials that we use are TENCEL™ Lyocell, responsible wool and organic cotton. When we use natural materials, we select qualities that are as close to 100% as possible and therefore not qualities where several different materials are included, this to make the product easier to recycle at the end of the cycle. The synthetic materials we use all come from recycled sources, be it polyester, nylon or elastane. A big part of our products are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified and all our synthetic materials are GRS-certified. The GRS certification guarantees that the part of the material marked as recycled is actually recycled, while the Oeko-Tex certification ensures that the material is produced without chemicals and does not contain substances that are harmful to health and the environment.

TENCEL™ LYOCELL
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are known for their natural comfort and delivers quality, performance and versatility. It can be combined with a wide range of textile fibers such as cotton, polyester, acrylic, wool, and silk to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of fabrics. Unique physical properties of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers lead to their great strength, efficient moisture absorption and gentleness to skin.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers have gained the reputation for their environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact. This solvent-spinning process recycles processed water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%. This economically visible manufacturing process received the European Award for the Environment from the European Commission in the category “The Technology Award for Sustainable Development” (2000).
TENCEL™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG.
RECYCLED POLYESTER
The reason why recycled polyester is considered as a green option in textiles is because it is using less energy and various studies all agree that it takes from 33% to 53% less energy compared to what’s needed to produce virgin polyester. Besides that, it helps keeping bottles and other plastics out of the landfills and oceans, since that is what the recycled polyester is made from. It is also cited as producing far fewer emissions to the air than the production of virgin polyester.
The Recycled polyester we use has the GRS and Oeko-Tex certification.
RECYCLED POLYAMIDE
The Q-NOVA recycled polyamide is made from at least 99% regenerated raw materials that would otherwise have been wasted in the textile manufacturing industry. The fiber is made using a mechanical regeneration system, which does not involve using chemical solutions that would detract from the sustainability of the end product. The recycled polyamide makes incredibly strong lace and mesh fabrics that are perfect for beautiful underwear designs.
Most of our recycled polyamide fabrics hold the GRS certification due to a very high content of regenerated material.
BANANA FIBERS
The banana fabric is made from banana leafs, and is a sustainable fabric. The banana plants rarely require fertilizers or pesticides and are therefore very eco-friendly to grow. The fibers are primarily waste elements of the farmers’ leftover stalks from banana plants and are processed into fibers after the fruits have been harvested for food. The banana fibers can be used for very fine and light fabrics, perfect for loungewear.
The banana leave fibers is made into 100% natural lyocell and is Oeko-Tex certified.
RECYCLED ELASTANE
The Roica Eco-Smart yarn, used to make our Italian lace fabrics comfortably stretchable, is a GRS certified eco-stretch elastane. It is made through a recycling technology using more than 50 percent pre-consumer industrial waste in textile manufacture. The stretchy yarn plays a special ingredient role in terms of Circular Economy product development, helping to create modern underwear that is smart, responsibly made and designed for everyday life and wear.
MILK FIBER
Milk fiber textile is made from sour milk from the dairy industry. The protein is extracted from the milk and made into a delicate and shiny fiber that can be spun and used for fabric. The fabric is extremely soft and has qualities comparable to those of silk. Because of the bacteriostatic nature of milk fiber, it is being considered as a perfect material for the manufacturing of underwear. Due to the fact that the material is a byproduct and demands almost no chemicals in production, it is regarded as a sustainable fabric.
Our milk fiber fabric is Oeko-Tex certified.
ORGANIC COTTON
A production process without the use of pesticides and synthetic growth regulators or genetically modified seeds characterizes organic cotton. Various certification organizations verify that organic suppliers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. A natural rotation of crops is often practiced in the fields as well – this way a more fertile soil is retained that gives higher yields and resistant plants.
Our organic cotton is GOTS certified.
RECYCLED WOOL
We prefer to reuse rather than produce. Recycled wool saves raw materials and brings new life to old garments. Our recycled wool is made from fabric that has been torn, re-spun and woven or knitted into new fabric. The process demands less energy and less landfill required for grazing sheep. It also creates less fabric waste. Recycled wool is extremely comfortable and durable, and as virgin wool, it has the ability to regulate body temperature very well.
Our recycled wool is Oeko-Tex certified and produced in Europe.
RESPONSIBLE WOOL
We do use a bit of new wool in some of our knit products, and it is very important for us that this new wool is ethically obtained. The yarn we use is chlorine-free merino wool, and the production of the wool is 100% mulesing free. This means regular cleaning and trimming of the sheep instead of using mulesing methods, making sure that the sheep are healthy and happy. It is produced in Europe, and is very soft and breathable and easy-care.
Our wool is Oeko-Tex certified and produced in Europe.
BRA MEASUREMENT
To find the most accurate size you have to do two measurements, A: bust and B: band. Do the measurements on your bare skin. Start off by measuring all the way around your bust where it’s widest. Then measure all the way around just under your bust. We have plus sizes for mostly all of our bra’s to make sure that bigger busts can fit our bras. When a size is plus size the underband stays the same and the size of the cup will go a size up; for example a size S+ has an underband that fits a regular size S and the cup size fits a regular size M. Be aware that it’s meant for you to start out using the outer buckle of the hook and eye closure first. Then you can adjust and tighten when the underband elastic gets looser.

BOTTOM MEASUREMENT
To find your most accurate size you have to do two measurements, A: waist and B: hip. Do the measurements on your bare skin. Start off by measuring all the way around your waist where it’s narrowest. Then measure all the way round your hip where it's widest.
Wanna know the tricks for measuring? Always measure on bare skin and not over clothing. This will give you the best and most accurate result. When we are talking measurements we mean the measures you have and not the lingerie, swimwear or loungewear. Always measure yourself and then use the results to find the perfect size in the wanted style.

TOP / SHIRT / DRESS MEASUREMENT
To find your most accurate size you have to do three measurements, A: bust and B: waist and C: hip. Do the measurements on your bare skin. Start off by measuring all the way around your bust where it’s widest. Then measure all the way around your waist where it’s narrowest. Then end off by measuring all the way round your hip where it's widest. These three measurements will indicate the most accurate size for you in our tops, shirts, kimonos and dresses.
